The Land of Kipling's Jungle Book - Madhya Pradesh's Wildlife Gem
Madhya Pradesh's Premier Tiger Reserve and Wildlife Sanctuary
Kanha National Park, located in Madhya Pradesh, India, is one of the country's most famous tiger reserves and the inspiration behind Rudyard Kipling's "The Jungle Book". Spanning over 1,945 square kilometers, this magnificent park is renowned for its high Royal Bengal Tiger density, diverse wildlife, and stunning landscapes of sal forests, bamboo groves, and vast grasslands known as "maidans".
The park is home to over 100 Royal Bengal Tigers and hosts one of India's most successful tiger conservation programs. Kanha's unique ecosystem supports a rich variety of wildlife including leopards, sloth bears, wild dogs, barasingha (swamp deer), and over 300 species of birds, making it a complete wilderness experience.
Kanha's success story is remarkable - from near extinction of the barasingha in the 1970s to a thriving population today. The park's diverse habitats, from dense forests to open grasslands, provide excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing and photography, making it a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts and wildlife photographers.
